High Park Wildfire at 67.8 Sq Miles

Posted: 12th June 2012 by Mark Newby in Wildfire

The High Park wildfire is showing signs of burning back on itself and slowing it’s spread. Many news sites and blogs produce superior descriptions of the incident. At Black Ice we are revealing a new way to look at these incidents with visually striking presentations that define the problem and give people immediate and intuitive access to vital information. Please go the the Summit County Citizen’s Voice for up-to-the-minute reporting and information on the fire.

Thanks for the great maps! As a current stay at home mom who’s background is in NR and GIS, It’s nice to see something more detailed that I can relate to than the generic versions put out on the news. Thanks for layering the day’s burn areas. This is Awesome – hope you guys keep it up, I will bookmark you for future updates on this fire and others that I’m sure are coming!! ;)

Thank you, Roy. We are working on a cross-platform solution to adding this data to smartphones and it should be up soon.

Our apologies. The success of these maps has generated a huge demand on the domain, and it is in the process of being upgraded to supply the required bandwidth. We promise to monitor it closely until the new setup is in place.

Thank you for posting these maps of the high park fire…i live in the upper poudre canyon, and it is difficult to tell how quickly the fire is spreading to the west from the news…and no one has updated the map in a while….i wonder if you could update this map to include the latest burns, as our neighbors who live 3 1/2 miles down the canyon from us have received a pre evacuation call, and i would really like to know how much the fire has spread to the west. your google map is cool, but id really love to see another one like this with the latest info please. Thank you :)

As the fire slows down, we stay in contact with Incident command and update as it is necessary. We are working on smartphone-based mapping of this fire and will have new developments soon. One of our issues is the enormous bandwidth demand of a successful development. This is being addressed by our domain ISP as I write, and the site should be back up shortly, we apologize for any inconvenience.
